I'd seriously be interested in hearing the behind-the-scenes conversations on how guys like Jimmy Raye and Norv Turner and Greg Robinson get hired. You've got to figure there's some intelligent guy in the room who's going bonkers.

Dumb new GM: Who should we get as offensive coordinator?

Dumb new coach: You know, how about Jimmy Raye? He's got tons of experience.

Smart assistant guy: Jimmy Raye? Are you kidd- uh, has Jimmy Raye ever been successful?

Dumb new GM: Successful? He's been with six teams!

Dumb new coach: He's been around for 30 years. He's coached EVERYWHERE!

Smart assistant guy: But has he ever run a good offense? Where have his offenses ranked statistically?

Dumb new GM: If he couldn't run an offense, he wouldn't have coached for six different teams.

Dumb new coach: Yeah, he's been around forever. Everybody knows who Jimmy Raye is. He'll give us instant credibility, like when the Chargers hired Norv and the Cowboys hired Wade.

Smart assistant guy: But -

Dumb new GM: Raye it is. Let's give him a call.
