I think that's a very unfair characterization, especially in 2010.
In the 70's & 80's, there was really no excuse for a half-filled stadium. Tickets were cheap and most local companies and corporations owned season tickets because they were able to write them off at 100%.
But with ticket, parking and concession prices as they are today, people just won't spend hundreds of dollars a weekend (if not way more) to consistently support a losing team.
I don't know how the recession is playing in KC because I don't know anyone, family or friends from high school and college, that lost their jobs or are unemployed because of it. But I'd imagine that most people have been watching the way they spend their money since the 2008 crash.
And a day at Arrowhead isn't cheap.
