I think it's awfully tough to outhit a lousy defense in October.

Their hot start at least suggests that their 'strengths' are in fact strengths. However, even throughout it, the warts this team came into the season with (abysmal defense, no team speed, shaky bullpen) are still apparent.

We've also been fortunate that Skip got hurt and we've played a real 2b for the last few weeks.

Though I do have to ask, if this isn't their 'best baseball', what is? Sure, Pujols will improve, but enough to offset the inevitable regression of Berkman and Holliday? No, not very likely. I'm not willing to count improvement from Carp as a given, but I gotta figure Lohse and garcia aren't suddenly CY candidates and McClellan will slow as the season progresses - I love him but he hasn't started in 1/2 a decade. And Westbrook truly is this bad.

This is pretty close to what we can expect of them.
