Lesson... don't be good friends with employees. That was my first management position though and I knew her before I got promoted so.... lesson to employees who are friends with their boss... don't take advantage of that friendship.

That's tough for any new manager. I had a similar experience when I first went into management in a company that I'd been an employee in for a long time. A good portion of my friends suddenly became my employees. It gets easier with time, but it sucks at first. Unfortunately, friendships are never the same once you fire them.
