I guess it's just a matter of perspective. Because I haven't seen anything that shouts "fear" to me in any way, and that certainly wasn't what I was referring to when I mentioned Zorn. All I'm seeing is a failure to execute, and some part of that is not directly attributable to Cassel. He doesn't look comfortable to me, but I think that's half because he's got a new QB coach in his ear, and half because because of the lockout. And before people say "it hasn't hurt other teams!", the reality is that the passing game here has never looked like the Chargers or the Patriots before, so I'm not particularly surprised that the Chiefs didn't suddenly turn into a passing yardage machine suddenly after the lockout. They've had problems with the passing game in the past, problems we all know they'll need to work on resolving, and, no surprise, that's what it looks like in the preseason. So, yeah, I'm not real surprised that Rivers or Rodgers or whoever else looks better than Cassel. Because they are. And because their units are, and have been.

And there isn't another QB on the roster who is going to do things well or threaten to take his job, not when we're talking about real NFL games. Although if there was one, it would probably be Palko at this point, and not Stanzi. I think Stanzi's head would be swimming if he was asked to execute the actual Chiefs offense as it will be gameplanned and run on a regular season game day, and that's without even considering what he'll see from NFL defenses, which will be doing things he's never seen at a speed he can't even grasp at this point. So basically, I think if there's ever a Cassel/Stanzi controversy, it probably will not happen now. Have him involved in the meetings, have him on the practice field as much as you can (reps need to primarily go to the starter...), and have him pound the film study. Have him pick Zorn's brain (and Cassel's brain) for as long as it takes him to 'get it' - if he ever does. Then it's time to start talking about playing him.
