Why, when he brought in Mike Vrabel, Mike Brown, Bobby Engram, Zach Thomas, Mark Simoneau, Mike Goff, and Thomas Jones to an extent, he was just looking to develop those guys in the later years of their career. He would never bring them in with the sole purpose of providing leadership and temporary band-aids to a team with struggles at depth at nearly every position. That's not how he works! You know Pioli... ALWAYS looking for developmental players over broke dick veterans. Rarely does he ever bring in broke dicks when the team needs a baseline of mediocrity just to fight and claw their way to 6 or 7 wins

He brought in some leadership guys to get the lockerroom straight, etc. and yes, he can fill gaps with some veteran players. However, we're not really in the hunt for the Superbowl so why not try to develop players at this point? They apparently already think the lockerroom is set up well by drafting Baldwin, etc. I'd rather they grab a decent safety rookie off a team's practice squad out there than fill in the spot with a stopgap. Although I'd still be fine with a stopgap guy at RT simply because it's almost impossible to hide that weakness. At least a young safety should be able to play deep zone, etc.
