This talk about "End Arounds" and "Reverses" got me thinking. I remember in the '60's the Chiefs had a play where they lined up Otis Taylor in the slot, would fake a run up the middle and do an end around with 89. They used to do it alot in goal line situations. We remember the end arounds to Frank Pitts in the Super Bowl. Living in Virginia in the "old days", during the 70's, NBC would mainly broadcast Oakland, Miami and Pittsburgh. CBS would run the local team, the Redskins. There was no directv and I was fortunate if I could see my Chiefs play once a year. Highlight shows and a tiny paragraph in the small local newspaper was normally all I could see or read concerning the Chiefs. A sweet memory I still have concerning this subject was this. In 1976 the Chiefs came to Washington to play the Redskins. The 'Skins were a very good team with Joe Theismann and John Riggins and the Chiefs were not, with Mike Livingston and Woody Green.I still remember waiting all week for the game. I didn't care if we were blown out, I just wanted to see me team play. Well you know what? The Chiefs came to play this Sunday afternoon in DC. The defense was tough and the offense was moving the ball all day. We were scoring left and right and it looked as though WE were going to win in a blowout. But, as the game went on, Theismann and the Skins came back and eventually had the lead with the game winding down, when this happened: The Chiefs are driving. I can't remember what down it was but, Mike Livingston took the snap, he handed off to Green who was running a sweep to the right, but NO, it's a reverse to Larry Marshall to the left, but NO, he tossed the ball to Livingston, it's a flea flicker! Mike Livingston stepped into his throw and threw a deep post pattern to Larry Brunson who caught the ball in stride.... TOUCHDOWN....CHIEFS WIN. This particular old memory didn't have Len Dawson, Otis Taylor or Ed Podolak, but for a big Chiefs fan in Virginia, it sure was sweet.
