I learned what Captcha and reCaptcha do on a NOVA episode and my mind was blown!
This shredding challenge reminds me how they work. A computer scans and makes "intelligent" guesses, then humans verify and/or solve what a computer cannot.
So there's my answer, hire Captcha. Did I win?
