Late to the party, but Black Friday was super easy this year. We only had one store that was crowded but the lines were short. Most of the stores we went to had no lines. I think that having some stores open at midnight and some still open at 4-5 am helped, though it makes for a long night.
I never shop the loss leaders that the store only has like 5 of so I don't stand out and wait in line for the stores to open. If you avoid that initial crush, it usually isn't too bad.
