So out of those 295 games, we had 106 games by really good QBs (Montana, Moon, and Green), 20 by pretty good QBs (Krieg and Gannon), and 51 by guys who had at least some tools to work with (Orton and Grbac). That leaves 118 games by abominations, most of which occurred after Green was brutally attacked without penalty.
Looking at this, the big failure was the failure to replace Green. While we didn't always have all-star QBs before him, we often had passable QBs. (And before anyone goes off on me, I recognize that we need a franchise QB to win. I'm just saying that the biggest debacle has taken place post-Trent Green.)
