The Chiefs have a chance to be very very good next season. A simply average NFL quarterback could be all that it takes.
I'd absolutely overpay for Orton if it meant getting Cassel gone. And if that overpay is only for a year, even better.
It's not a matter of taking Orton over Bowe or Carr - like I said, this is contingent on getting both of those guys signed longterm - it's a matter of taking Orton over Cassel and being willing to overpay in terms of $$ (money that I'm not ever going to see either way) over a short window to make it happen.
I'm not sure why folks are so up in arms about this. They just see "OHMYGOD ORTON AT $18 MILLION?!?!" and turn their brains off. Who gives a shit about how much cash we throw at a player on a 1-yr deal when it ultimately won't impact this team long-term at all?
