Here's why the Broncos might have a chance at Manning:

• With his brother Eli Manning now lording over the NFC with the New York Giants, Peyton Manning would prefer to stay in the AFC.

• Put Manning on their team and the Broncos are automatically the favorites to repeat as AFC West champs.

• Money. Among teams bidding for Manning, only Washington figures to have as much salary cap space as the Broncos. Washington is not only an NFC team, it plays twice a year as a division rival to Eli's Giants.

• Elway and Fox. The Broncos have a Hall of Fame quarterback, Elway, sitting in the front office's biggest chair.

And Fox creates the type of enjoyable working environment that Manning was accustomed to in Indianapolis. In contrast, Scott Pioli and the Kansas City Chiefs seemingly motivate through fear.

• Broncos offense. Fox proved last year he will adapt his system to his quarterback's skill set. The Broncos also have a strong running game and one of the league's most talented young receiver duos in Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker.

• Broncos defense. The Colts were a play-from-ahead defense built around pass rushers Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. Denver's D is also built to play from ahead, because its strengths are pass rushers Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller.

Now the Broncos just have to play more games from ahead.
