And since about '95, the Grand Cru's have been stupidly overpriced, mostly due to assinine yups who started investing in wine futures as the Bordeaux's pump out Australian level amounts every year but charge exorbitant prices for their 30,000 case lots.
I would have went with something like a Vosne Romanee 1st Cru or a Gaja Barolo Sperss if you really wanted to come off as super pretentious.

Barolo and Barbaresco wines are divine as well. Italy is unique without a doubt.
