In 1961, I got in a real fight at recess. Both of us came back to the room with black eyes. No big deal, the teacher knew our parents would deal with us that night.
In 8th grade wood shop, our teacher, Mr. Atherton was well known for giving spats out in the hall with a wood paddle. You bent over and grabbed your ankles. You could hear it all over the school, and all the teachers knew it. No biggie.

I can definately remember in elementary during the 70s getting sent to the Principles office meant a spanking. Teachers would sometimes do it themselves in another room or closet somewhere.
