It would be very similar.

The Magic/Kareem Lakers were declining as a power but had 2 of the top 25 players in NBA history on their roster. As they faced off against the Bulls with Jordan and Pippin, they were being challenged by a younger team that also had 2 of the top 50 players in NBA history on its roster.

Granted, there's no Jordan here, but there's greater overall talent when you go roster to roster. Kobe/Nash/Howard/Bynum would probably kick the piss out of the early 90s Lakers and the James/Wade/Bosh Heat (now that James has evidently pulled his head from his ass) would be able to run with that Bulls squad.

I think you're letting nostalgia win the day here. The comparison is pretty fair.
