This is where real life and football cannot be compared. Putting in “extra” work is just life in the NFL. Players watch tape on their days off. Players lift weights on their days off. Why? Because it makes them a better player and gets them a huge payday when the time comes for their next contract. I assume most people’s jobs don’t involve a mere 16 performances in front of the eyes of your boss’ competition, who will then be bidding for your services.
The only reason NOT to go to camp is if you have NO contract, which Bowe does. The only thing that is affected is Bowe’s readiness for the 2012 season – a season he needs to be great if he plans on getting the contract he thinks he deserves.
