So today went and retrieved it. Guy acted like he did me a favor. I bit my tongue, because he meant no harm, then I proceeded to explain to the older fellow just what can be done with having just that bit of information. He still didn't get it. Then I spent an hour on the phone with the SSA, next the police department to file a informational report, next the federal trade commision and next all 3 credit bureaus.
For the record, I know it shouldn't have been in my wallet, but I pulled it out of the lockbox when I was job hunting and forgot about it. The police stated that their primary concern was an illegal using it for employment. A stupid mistake on my part that has me very much on edge.
