Horrible service deserves no tip. Horrible service should be lucky with the no-tip and thank God above I didn't have time to call the manager over and point out every fail and problem with the service...

If the service is really bad I'll still leave a tip, but I'll only round up to the next dollar. If you live a $0.60 tip then you're telling the server they did a shit job. You leave nothing then you come off as the asshole...assuming of course the server is the least bit self-aware.
Although something about this story has me really skeptical. Maybe it's because its from reddit. But there's no itemized receipt. Could there have been a gratuity included in the $138 bill? It's possible. If that's the case then I don't think you really need to tip on top of it. Did the server do a bad job? Did the person leave a cash tip in lieu of a tip on the credit slip, I do that so that the server doesn't have to claim the tip and pay taxes on it.
