Lots of reasons why this was going to happen whether or not SOC existed. They may have sped things up slightly but it has to do with $ and being embarrassed with the product on the field more than any banner flying in the sky.
So a group that begged for certain things to happen is wrong to show appreciation for those things happening, whether it was because of them or not... ok...
