Alex Smith is being brought to Kansas City to WIN NOW. There isn't one goddamned QB in the 2013 draft that can start Day One, let alone win 11 games this year.

The Chiefs have chosen not to wait and develop a guy for three years. Period.

By trading for Smith, the Chiefs have given themselves a 3 year window in which to draft and develop a QB. They now have the luxury of taking a guy in the 5th round and a guy in the first round next year and develop them.

Forcing a rookie to start just because you need a QB is foolish. Blaine Gabbert, anyone?
