Joe Freaking Montana did to Steve Young.

Kurt Warner lost his job to Eli Manning when he had the Giants 5-3 and in the playoff hunt.

Alex Smith lost his job coming off the best game of his career while leading the league in rating, completion percentage and being 6th in the espns reeruned logic of qbr.

It defintely is not as uncommon as people make it.
