If the Royals ever contend for anything meaningful, it won't be with Alex Gordon batting leadoff. It will be with someone like Cain increasing his plate discipline and Gordon/Butler/Moustakas driving him in.

Right, but Ned can't mortgage his future on pretending like his lineup is playoff-ready. It's a shame that our superstar is the only guy who has the appropriate tools for the leadoff spot, but it's the situation we're in.
