The nice thing about it is that it becomes more demanding as you get better at it. Running your fastest is different for everyone depending on your level of fitness.
The downside is that you may not be able to sprint 8 times when you start. If you try to jog 5k, you might get winded and have to stop. With sprints, you damned near keel over.
It's like drinking shots versus beer. You might get the same amount of alcohol, but it's a lot harder to pace yourself with beer than with shots.
