Alex Smith has not proven he can throw the deep ball. I don't doubt he can throw it long, I'm assuming any NFL QB can chuck it deep, but AS doesn't have the chops to do in a game, during crunch time, like say the Manning bros. or any other high priced NFL QB. The Chiefs are paying a shit load of cash for a QB that cannot attack all dimensions of the field with reliability. And at AS's age, I don't think he is going to magically add the effective long ball to the arsenal.
