You speak of QBs like Ben Rothlisberger and Joe Flacco who played on teams and won with a lot of help from their defenses. Flacco ironically won the Super Bowl with his worst defense in years, but that's besides the point. Those QBs do what it takes to win and that's all that matters is what you're saying. Fair enough.

You know what else those QBs do? Throw for 300-400 yards with multiple TDs. They win shootouts. They win grind games. They make clutch plays.

Don't even try comparing Alex Smith to those QBs. He's not at all what you think he is. He's far more Kyle Orton than he'll ever be Roethlisberger or Flacco.
Thank u. thats all i wanted. a more subtle response. and one thing i know that u left out.

He led the league in Comeback wins.

He went toe to toe with the leagues best in Brees, (in the playoffs, no less) and pulled out the victory.

He has already proven to be clutch, and win those grind games. In which, as you know, grind games don't have to be high scoring. Just which teams offense can put up that winning score, or in some cases, drive the ball down the field for the winning FG if need be.

Also, and lets be honest, did any of those teams have a great core around them. Honestly IMHO, had Flacco not had Boldin or Ray Lewis's comeback journey, he may not have won that SB. Had Roeth, not had the Bus, Ward, or Polamalu, he may not have won.

So although we talk only of the Qb, some other parts have to be in place to help the Qb overcome and get that W.

But thats the only problem, something is lost or insulted in trying to compare Qb's.
For Example, I dislike both the Mannings. But honestly is Eli better because he has more SB's than his brother?? Some say Hell yeah, and some say Hell no. It comes down to the way we individually look at it, know what I mean.

I just say whats wrong with giving the guy a chance, and see if he can help lead this team to victories? Don't count him out because of earlier years before JH. Because if you take his last two year results, i think 19-5, and clutch playoff win leading to the divisional championship. Not too shabby IMHO.
