That's the way the tone of this board is. It's 4 chan lite at times, which gives it a lot of character.
If that offends you, then go post at Warpaint Illustrated. People there are much nicer to each other, they love whatever it is the Chiefs do, and are probably good with Alex Smith as their QB. Oh, and I'll bet you'll find a lot more posters who use "u" as shorthand.
