This is one of those chicken or egg questions. Most talented vocalists are not really great guitar, etc. players and great guitar/piano/etc. players really aren't good vocalists. There are exceptions of course, Joe Bonamassa come to mind. But guys like Steve Perry and David Ruffin didn't play an instrument on stage or in the studio.
I guess I'd have to go with Michael McDonald on "What a fool believes" or BB King on either "The thrill is gone" or "Into the night".
But RM is right. If you could do The Killer's "Great balls of fire" you'd be drinking for free a long time.
