There is some past tense language in there but it sounds like the only way he opts out is if the Cardinals aren't willing to up his salary.

I know some people are pissed off about disappearing in the playoffs but players who can give you 30HR’s and 100 RBI’s are rare in baseball. He’s still at the top of his game on defense. Some of the plays he makes are truly amazing.
Even if they sweeten it by a couple of million a year or add a year or two, it’s still “cheap” compared to what the market is in baseball. We got $50 million in cash from the Rockies. You figure that in, it’s a “cheap” contract.
