Exactly... it's a lighthearted claim to a NC that will never be.
We get it's lame and thats kind of the point. It's not like there's a banner in AFH, and if there was, I'd just laugh at that, too (along with my wine bottle
).
However, I would say it's different than say hanging a banner for a Sweet Sixteen appearance simply because Kansas did everything it could that year. It's not some "we made it further than ever before even if we didn't win it all!"... they did everything possible to claim a NC by being the best team in the field and it's not their fault the tourney for canceled.
They wouldn't be celebrated coming up short but still having a good year, because they were literally the best team at the end.
