YES!!!! CAIN IS ACTIVE!!!!

Royals activate Cain, Getz from disabled list
BY BOB DUTTON
The Kansas City Star

Center fielder Lorenzo Cain and second baseman Chris Getz will be available for duty Friday when the Royals resume their season with the start of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals activated Cain and Getz from the disabled list Monday morning after confirming infielder Irving Falu and right-handed pitcher Nate Adcock had been optioned to Class AAA Omaha in corresponding space-clearing moves.

Cain’s return comes after missing three months because of a strained left groin and a torn left hip flexor. The groin injury occurred April 10 while making a catch in Oakland; he tore his hip flexor on April 24 while on a rehab assignment at Class AA Northwest Arkansas.

Getz also missed significant time in the season’s first half because of two injuries. A bruised left ribcage forced him to the disabled list for three weeks in late May, and he suffered a muscle strain in his lower left leg on June 17 – just five days after his return.

Cain was two for 15 in five games prior to his injury. Getz batted .290 with a .327 on-base percentage in 36 games when healthy.

Falu was three for 10 in three games following his June 18 recall from Omaha to replace Getz. Falu also replaced an injured Yuniesky Betancourt on the big-league roster from May 3 to June 1. Overall, Falu is batting .321 (17 for 53) in 15 games.

For Adcock, the move continues his season-long shuttle between the Royals and Omaha. He has been recalled five times and optioned back five times since opening the season in the minors. He is 0-3 in 10 big-league games with a 2.67 ERA in 30 1/3 innings.

International signings

The Royals continue to mine Venezuela for young talent by signing two 16-year-old pitchers less than a week after signing a 16-year-old third baseman.

The latest additions are right-hander Julio Pinto and lefty Junior Reyes. Baseball America reported Pinto received a $375,000 bonus, while Reyes got $155,000. The Royals recently signed third baseman Samir Duenez for $425,000.

Pinto joined Duenez last month in the Dominican Prospect League’s Perfect Game International Series and was picked as the MVP in the showcase’s all-tournament game. Baseball America reports he throws 88-92 mph with developing secondary pitches.

Reyes throws 87-89 mph but, according to Baseball America draws praise for his command.
