My background check for a new job once came back with me being a crack dealer in Indianapolis. Never mind that the only things in common were name, month of birth, and year of birth. Apparently Indiana does not track actual day of birth or social security numbers for its felons The hiring company wasn't satisfied despite the minor discrepancies that I was neither black, currently in prison, or had ever had an address in Indiana. I had to get the security company to clear me... mind you at the time I had put my house on the market and was 1 week away from moving my family to a new state for the job. When I called the company doing the background check, the lady on the other end told me she had some bad and good news. Bad news was they couldn't clear me until I had all kinds of other crap done, but good news was she had just saved some money on her car insurance. If she would have been in arms reach I probably would have become a felon at that moment.
