Then draft a RG. It doesn't matter how good LDT is if he frequently misses games like he has the past couple of seasons. The backup is going to have to play.
A new center and a new guard of some type. Let that guy fight it out with Rankin for LG. If Rankin is good enough, then put that guy in as LDT"s backup. Or just cut LDT outright.
We've gotten quite lucky with the play of our backup linemen over many years. Morse is out? Well whaddaya know... Zach Fulton played some center in preseason and looks pretty damn good. LDT is hurt? Good thing Jeff Allen came back for peanuts and plays better here than he did in Houston. Morse is hurt again? Well, we got the job done with Reiter I guess last year...
The luck will eventually run out if we continue to take backup-of-the-week or rando-undrafted-dude-who-could-maul-against-4th-string-in-preseason guy and just promote them to a starting position.
Veach and Reid would be wise to make offseason/draft priority #1. Mahomes has proven he can get us to an AFC Championship game without a defense. He can't take us there if he's on the sideline.
