The only "hate crime" is me hating folks like these. If the attendant (and then the captain) says sit down and turn off your electronic devices...do it, or get the **** off.
The main problem here is the chaperones it sounds like.
I fly quite a bit, and there is always some jerk that has to have his phone (or whatever else) on after they say turn it off.
If you have 100 of them doing it, i would imagine it could be quite unruly.
