It doesn't have to be tangible, it just has to have a value for some reason. Either it is tangible and can be sold just because people value it for whatever reason or it has to have some sort of backing to be valuable. You don't get to make something have value just because. Cryptocurrency could eventually become a stable valuable "thing". But it will take the backing and regulation to do so. Until then it is like playing with fire to try and make any investment in it.
