Mahomes is an incredible talent, but every time you hear a story about the coaching he's done with Reid, you realize how lucky Mahomes was as well.
The 'interception week' in training camp where everyone was freaking out in the national media is a remarkable one and Mahomes specifically cited it when he was talking about the TD pass he threw to Kelce with that not even a window window.
He said he'd have never been able to make that pass last season and even struggled to start with in camp. But then Reid told him 'look - try EVERY throw, even ones you're not making and might get picked. We want those on tape and once we get the film of them, we'll fix 'em..."
I'd always seen whole affair as more of a 'lets see what you can do and not do' kind of exercise and they were going to train Mahomes on what throws he should avoid. No - it was much more than that. It was also to see what throws he is trying to make, isn't making but
could.
I mean that's just remarkable foresight and coaching from Reid. It wasn't just to break him of bad habits, it was to teach him how to make some of these otherwordly throws.
Reid is a friggen wizard, that's just all there is to it. Mahomes gives him a talent he's never had, but Reid makes Mahomes more than anyone in the league would've made him and the more I hear about how he's worked with Pat, the more convinced of that I am.
