No doubt, Faux-Hawk played the system perfectly.
I haven’t seen him play since he left (when is SD on anyway?), but the stats were showing an alarming inability to make contact. He and Moose always had good eyes, didn’t swing at much garbage and when they did could make contact. Hosmer went from 15% K to like 24% last year. If it came with 30+ jacks you could accept the
“empty calories” as selling out for power. But didn’t even provide that.
Justin Smoak, 33, is the same player now, a few years older but a good comp. Smoak was non tendered by Toronto after a 20HR 101 wRC+ season and signed a 1/5 deal with Milwaukee. That’s what Hoz deserves.
