It's important to see what players with no long-term future with the Royals do at the lead-off spot (and by "long-term" I mean even next year, since Dyson certainly doesn't project as a starter).
Thus, we have a few options:
1. Yost is managing the rest of this year for his job, and he's panicking.
2. Yost is acting on the directives of DM, who has lost faith in Hosmer and Moose and is panicking.
3. Yost and DM are both dumb as ****. One could prevent the other from making this mistake, but both are doing it.
Guess which possibility I'm thinking is most likely?
There are no answers, presumably, at the three spot, right? That's the "reason" for the change. Well, look at Butler's career slash when batting third; it's outstanding. He's the answer. It's not hard, and the numbers don't lie.
As Rany said earlier today about moving Gordon: This isn't about "not fixing what isn't broken"; this is about the team "breaking what's already fixed."
Basically, the leaders of this team have reaffirmed that they're either gutless, stupid, or a combination of the two. Again, what this signals is that the team will never win under DM, and that Yost is likely going to be fired during the '13 season.
I don't anticipate posting much more about the travesty known as the Royals until major changes occur.
