umm ... the speed of the PC vs Console is completely the same. If one gets outdated then so does the other. The only reason you don't upgrade the console more frequently is because you can't.
people just update their computer because they WANT to and usually enjoy doing that kind of stuff.
Consoles only have 2 benefits over a PC
1. As a marketing tool, some games are released early or only for a certain console. (good luck buying a Wii/PS3/Xbox to cover all bases)
2. ease of use ... consoles are basically plug-n-play, which is good for people who aren't tech savvy.
There is nothing else that you can do on a console that can't be done
AT LEAST as well on a PC.
