I bought a Chocolate Ale yesterday in Phoenix, against my better judgment, because it was only like $4. The only other time I've had it was on tap in KC a few years ago... it was drinkable then, but insanely overrated in the KC area. It was like BCS hype, but for Bud Light with a hint of chocolate.

Anyway, took a couple drinks last night and poured it out... one review on beeradvocate used the phrase "sour garbage water".... not even drinkable.

And it got me thinking.... I've always put Boulevard on a pedestal because I started craft beer with Pale Ale, Single/Double Wide IPA, Dark Truth, BBQ... even though I've thought for years that they've fallen off quite a bit.

It got me thinking, maybe they weren't ever all that great to begin with... like Cutthroat Porter, Shake Porter, etc; maybe they were just decent enough for a beginner craft beer person, but don't really hold up at all to the great beer out there.

BBQ is the one beer that's stood the test of time.

There's a lot of beer out there that I think, my tastes have evolved past this.... but, for whatever reasons (being a KC brewery, popping my craft beer cherry, then being bought out), I've always thought of Boulevard differently.

Kind of a sad realization.
