Why is there, for sure, 100% guaranteed, a full playoff?
Lets say that the PAC 12 and Big 10 are going to be a pain in the ass and say "we want top 4 champions, period, our way or the highway".
This new game allows the SEC to say "you know what, screw all yall, we're not having a playoff. Lets do plus-one"
The SEC/Big 12 would obviously prefer top-4. They will NOT agree to top-4-champs, no way, nohow, not gonna happen. They might compromise at 2+2 or 3+1, and this game allows that compromise to happen by showing the Big 10 that the SEC/Big 12 has a plan B.
Bottom line, the SEC/Big 12 wants the #2 team in the country to be in the playoffs, period, even if #1 is their conference's champ. They also don't want a crappy conference champ in the playoffs, period. They'd like #3 and #4 to be in there too, but it is NOT acceptable to have #2 get left out, or have a crap conference champ be in, and the top-4-champ model could allow that to happen.
