If you are relatively new to pistol shooting and are not interested in hunting or personal defense, I would recommend a .22LR target pistol like a Ruger MK II or Smith and Wesson Model 41.

You can get any decent 22LR target pistol for a couple hundred dollars. Ammo is dirt cheap, you can shoot all day for a couple bucks. Recoil is minimal so you won't develop bad habits as you improve your accuracy.
