Has Trump handled communications with Sessions properly, no. For the most part, I agree with how Sessions has handled the position. The only real disagreement is that is his recusal from Russia was way too broad. Sure he should have stepped aside where he was personally involved, after a showing that there was probable cause he committed a crime or a witness to the events so far he has not had a conflict with any indictment brought and the DOJ should have handled everyone of them.

But other then that I think he has done a good job and has had to battle a lot of career DOJ officials trying to stop his progress.

Rosenstein should not have been the one overseeing Mueller, he has more of a conflict then Sessions and I am glad he is not going to be any longer.
Oh, I think it I doubt any of us can recall a recent POTUS publicly humiliating his AG or any other cabinet member like Trump did Sessions. Hence, it's not standard practice.
