Davis holds a tremendous amount of respect for Gruden. He tried for 7 years to bring him back to the Raiders. If it were up to him he would most likely still have a job.
It doesn't sound like they discussed a settlement before he left which is highly unusual. If Davis wanted him to stay (and he's not exactly the type to give in to the NFL) then why wouldn't he defiantly fight it? You're telling me Mark Davis was pushing the option to fire the coach he liked, give in to the NFL, knowing he'd burn tens of millions on an empty chair? I don't buy it. If Davis liked him that much he'd give the NFL the middle finger and beg gruden to stay and fight it together.

How would the NFL make sure gruden didn't walk out of that room not fired. Unless they had some ammo. The speed at which this happened sure see suspicious like gruden was getting ahead of something.
