There is no guarantee this would have solved the problem for the Bills.
Say they squib kick and the ball gets returned up to the 35-40 yard line (which is very likely)... Pat only then needs 1 play to get the ball in FG range. It would somewhat equal out. It's hard to put a loss on 1 play, the Bills just like the Chiefs had multiple chances to put the game away. |

Armchair coaching at it's best. Megatron and Molitoth have it right.

Because they thought even the grim reaper couldn't get to them in 13 seconds.
The grim reaper, however, works outside the boundaries of space and time. He only needed 10. But what seemed like 10 seconds to use, was a lifetime to him. Because he owns so many lives.

I don't think the squib is the right answer - it's too easy for an up-man to just fall on the ball and stop the clock with the recovery. If it's not punched right through the gap or it takes a funny hop, you could easily end up with the ball on the 40 with no time off the clock.
I think the answer is that high arcer that Toub likes to have Butker kick on occasion. It comes up at about the 7-8 yard line so you can't just let it bounce and hope it goes into the endzone for the touchback. It also gives your coverage team time to get down there on it. It's DAMN hard to house a high kick because the coverage unit has started to converge on you as you catch it. It probably eats 3-4 seconds off the clock and really forces KC's hands as early as the first play to Hill. If there's 10 seconds on the clock instead of 13 and that first play to Hill takes them down to 5 seconds and there's no way they can even attempt that throw to Kelce. Maybe they try some 7 yard quick hitter to set up a 60+ yarder. They wouldn't be able to risk going up the seam with it. They get some sort of Hill Mary play that takes them to the 50ish and probably try a deep shot into the end zone. An extra 4 seconds made all the difference in the world. I cannot understand at all why they kicked that sucker through the end zone.
