2) Wasn't talking about Vinces throwing motion...I said his mobility. 3) I'm aware of the type of O Vince ran...which is why I said Geno ran far less. The offenses were similar to the spread that was run by Utah...you know...the OTHER QB I compared him to. Do you guys not know what the word "cross" means. EDIT....Actually just looked it up. Geno is exactly the same size I thought he was.....I just didn't realize Vince Young was that freakin tall. LOL. I always thought he was in the 6'2" or 6'3" range. I think something bogus tho.....He said he had to look UP to Kaep in an interview...and Kaep is just under 6'5". Last edited by Marvin49; 02-26-2013 at 02:48 PM.. |

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...025/geno-smith note: he only played a game or two during 2009 and he has good td/INT ratio stats even behind center for 2010, 2011 & 2012. He's got some "it" factor there, imo a guy like Gruden & his style of fitting the the offense around the QB and his WCO style is similar to Reid (who was his mentor a few seasons in philly and GB) would best suit Geno Smith as a rookie starter. Andy Reid tends to be less forgiving in his QB's assignments, so starting Geno Smith for the Chiefs 2013 season would be asking a lot from Geno imo. Most of this Reid WCO offense begins with 5-7 step drops.

Alex Smith is a fine comparison on his own and was much more of a running QB in college than Geno (and he didn't run nearly as much as Young). What are you "crossing" him with regarding Vince Young to get to Geno Smith?

I agree, though, that Geno's accuracy and ability to protect the football are great traits for a WCO guy. Throw in his touch downfield, and I think he's a perfect fit for Andy Reid's version of it (given a little time - there would be growing pains, of course)...

I know that the Urban Meyer O counted alot more on the running game and short passes than the offense that Geno ran... ...I think I was just trying to make the point that I'm aware the offense Vince ran is far, far, different. When I was making the Vince Young portion of the comparison, I actually meant it as a compliment. Tho Geno didn't run all that much in college, he CAN run. He can run the Pistol or the Read-Option should the Chiefs choose to employ them or he can just be a good scrambler and get out of the pocket when he needs to in a more conventionl offense. At no point was I trying to infer that he was solely a "running QB". He is a QB who can run. |

Well then, I guess a decade or so of watching Mcnabb drop back in all those 5-7 step drops mean nothing. to you

Eagles did it with McNabb ... @Crispee49: why would 49ers trade within their own division and face Smith twice? |

If the 49ers are seriously talking to a team within their own division about Alex Smith, it means they didn't have anyone offer CLOSE to what they want for him.
This is good news.

Then, in the 2nd paragraph you suggest that Reid is less forgiving than Gruden and would have more of a requirement for Geno to fit HIS offense rather than the other way around. So if the 1st paragraph is true (Reid tailors his offense to the QB), then paragraph 2 is FALSE. If the 1st paragraph is false or you misspoke and meant to say Reid is NOT like Gruden, then paragraph 2 is ONLY TRUE if Reid had actually demonstrated that his offense takes rigid precedence over the ability of his QB. Which leads us back to my answer. Reid built a different offense around McNabb than he did around Vick. And when Vick went down, he changed his offense AGAIN to accomodate Nick Foles. Paragraph 2 is CLEARLY false. Which means the backhanded comment you made about Geno is irrelevant. |

I'm actually thinking they may be the ones who told people that the 49ers were saying they had a deal i place. All of the rumors about the Cards are that they are interested....not that the 49ers are listening. |

I can't believe fans would want an upgrade at the QB position and would rather sacrifice a #1 pick on a player of Geno's caliber. What if he comes out and flops? You guys are doomed for years to come.
Bring in a guy like Alex Smith who has played extremely well the past two seasons, and even if he doesn't work out you still have at least a guy that brings leadership, doesn't make mistakes, 18-5(19-6 w/ playoffs), and 2 of his last 4 games were about as perfect as you can have. 18/19 for 233 and 3 tds, 8/9 1 td his game he was hurt and his 300 yard 3td game against the Bills in which he was nearly perfect as well. Not to mention leading the league in completion percentage, QBR, td/int ratio (remember 3 of his 5 were in one game in which he had a broken finger). This idea that the media has portrayed on Alex has obviously gotten to fans here. Alex may not be an explosive QB that everyone wants but he is no Matt Cassel. With him being coached by Reid running a WCO in which he has plenty of experience, with him having Charles as a RB with a decent line, I think Alex could win your division for you. If not at the very least you have a stop gap that is better than any of these other guys I've seen mentioned. Alex has 2 years in a row of playing well, Matt Flynn has 2 games. Matt Cassell? Go ahead and stay with him and see how far you go. |
