Football (and baseball) are just brutally self-selecting.
Most guys that can't stay healthy don't even make it as far as Fortson has. But it appears that Fortson's hit his pinch point. Health is a skill - Jody doesn't have it. Guy has tools for days but in the end, availability is the most important one to have and it's just not there for him. It's brought down greater talents than him before anyone even knew their names. It's just the nature of the beast.

It could be that Reid and Veach just like Fortson and feel terrible that he suffered yet another season ending injury.
They could be trying to reach an injury settlement, but it could be that they want him in camp next year because they have already invested so much time into him, and there isn't any benefit to formally cutting or releasing him. Having said that, it feels like Fortson will never play another regular season game with the Chiefs. |

Yah. I was hoping that he was just really unlucky until he got injured most recently. But it seems evident at this point that he's injury-prone. Just too bad really.

Perhaps, he favored a year's salary with rehab to the injury settlement offer from the Chiefs. |

The Chief's coaches and staff obviously see something in Jody Fortson that they have liked. He was on their Practice Squad for 2019 and 2020. In 2021 he played 6 games before being placed on IR with an Achilles injury. in 2022 he got a late start to the season with a leg quad bruise and then had an elbow injury but finished with 13 games. This year's injury has been reported as a separated shoulder that requires surgery.
Jody will probably go on IR followed by an injury settlement and will become a free agent after his injury/surgery has healed. If there is an injury settlement, the Chiefs would have no control of Fortson and he could sign with any NFL team when he is healthy. Given his injury history this might be the end of Jody Fortson with the Chiefs, but they could also re-sign him as a free agent late in the season. |

Hey, I stayed healthy WELL past running out of talent. First major injury on a diamond was when I was out there at 41 playing with fat old-timers.
But it's funny - when I was in my mid-20s I played 4 and sometimes 5 nights a week and with a few tournaments in there as well. Played probably 100-120 games over the course of a season. Just making maybe 6-8 'hard' throws per game plus warmups, my arm was friggen toast by the end of the year. Couldn't raise my elbow above my shoulder. I could barely even swing the bat because my shoulder hurt so bad. So yeah, even if I DID have talent, I'm betting my arm simply wasn't built for the rigors of 162 games. A game of baseball is easy. Hell, 20 games isn't bad. But the real problem with baseball is playing every single damn day. It just grinds you to dust.
