Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

It looks interesting, a handgun bullet that travels at 2200fps. A local dealer has the funky looking FN carbine for sale at 1500, but I don't want to fight the ammo issues. |

The round is really fun, long range pistol round, very fast, low recoil and very accurate. Plus how can you complain with 20rds normal 30 extended for a pistol and 50 rounds in the AR57 platform using P90 mags!

I just got done reading about the history of the pistol and cartridge, and it looks like the gun grabbers HATE it. I need to get one. |

Honestly that's part of the reason I bought one, because it's hated by the gun control nuts. It's the same reason why I'm picking up 50 cal guns too! Really the only thing that isn't great about the 5.7 platform is the ammo situation. All the factory loaded ammo is made by FNH. It's gotten a bit better in the past year because Federal sells it under the american eagle brand too(but it's still made buy FNH right now). But if it becomes more popular and another maker picks up the ammo that will be a major event. Honestly I think it would be awesome if we just had someone make brass. The bullets can be the same that's used in 5.56, you just need a brass source. FNH did just release the FiveSeven MK2 recently so supply of the guns is probably a bit short as they ramp up production, but the MK2 has some nice extras. Forward cocking serrations, one piece slide(instead of two piece) and all black controls and better sights. It's not a small gun by any means but it's fun to shoot!

One other bit about the FiveSeven, since the round is so long normally the grip is longer than some. It's actually nice to me because I have big hands but it people have really small hands it might feel a bit bulky to them.

Re: Should you sell your Chicom SKS for not much money?
Have you ever known anyone who later said 'Boy, I remember selling that (gun name of your choice here) and spending the money on gasoline and electric bills. Man, am I ever glad I sold that gun! Sure don't wish I had it back for the piddly amount of cash I got!' No, you do not know anyone who's said that. You know people who say "I wish I hadn't sold that gun for not much money, you can't find one like that anywhere now!" Your chi-com SKS, they can't import those anymore (thanks to Bill Clinton) so it's not like they grow on trees. Chinese communists? They may grow on trees, not Chinese communist rifles already legally here in America. Just my 2 shekels.

And I would never sell my Russian SKS, especially after going through the panic and failed gun grabs this year. I overpaid for mine back in '08 or '09($425 or so). But it was the nicest SKS I'd ever seen in person, and it had matching numbers too. Most that you see around here are beat to hell Chinese models that may or may not have the bayonet still attached. And I didn't know at the time, but the Russian ones are harder to find, more desirable, and more valuable than the average SKS. Funny SKS-related story... I offered to sell it to my buddy a couple years ago. He was into shooting guns, but never wanted to actually buy one. I've been telling him for several years that he needs to buy guns, but he never did. He was always happy with shooting my guns instead of buying his own. He's a stubborn SOB that prefers to spend his money on fancy cell phones every few months. I offered several times to sell it to him for $400, but he declined each time. It was too rich for his blood. Fast forward to the Great Panic of 2013. He sees that Obama and the Dems are attacking the 2nd Amendment and going after American's guns. He finally wakes up and buys his first guns(2 Sig Sauer P250 pistols), mags, thousands of rounds of 9mm and .45, and a quick access safe. He ends up spending thousands of dollars within a month's time, and a shit ton of time searching the internet for ammo and mags. He also searches Gunbroker like crazy looking for a Russian SKS just like mine. But they were going for hundreds of dollars more than what I offered him years ago. I can't tell you how sweet it was to give him the "I told you so" speech for not buying guns and ammo years earlier, and not buying my SKS for "cheap" when I offered it to him. He knew I was right, but he still won't admit it. We both laugh about it any time we start talking about it. |

I've got to brag though. I bought 3 SKS and 10800 rnds for less than $700 back in 92. All safely stashed away. The rifles were going for $130 ea at that time $95 if you ordered 3 or more. |

I couldn't sell it for $350. It's worth more than that with the ammo. It's going to stay in the safe. My wife said I would regret it and try and buy another sks later on so there wasn't a point to sell it.
My shtf rifle will be the ak74, my wifes is the AR. Picked up a spam can of 5.45x39 for $218. |

Here's something cool.
Found out a guy I work with, who was born and raised mostly in Iraq, whose father was a Colonel in the Air Force. I guess when he was promoted, he was awarded an AK-47 with an inscription from Sadaam Hussein. His dad has since passed, and left it to his son. ....still in the case; never taken out of it. now THAT would be cool. Of course, the rifle is in Dubai with no real way of getting it out.

Am I crazy?
I bought a 21SF Glock first, then a Ruger SR45, then a Ruger SR1911 I am not liking my Glock as much anymore... As a matter of fact I have the SR45 with me most of the time at the Computer and on the night stand... Should I just sell it or wait until the feeling comes back? Signed Anon in NC |
