Zack Snyder to direct next Superman film
http://heatvision.hollywoodreporter....medium=twitter
Nolan and Zack Snyder, definitely an interesting team. There are already rumors now that Zod is going to be the villain. I have to say I'm excited that it "appears" they aren't going to go totally out of left field and do something stupid and out of character for Superman. |

Odd man out Brandon Routh sounds like a class act as he comments on this new Superman.
http://geek-news.mtv.com/2013/06/12/...-man-of-steel/ MTV Geek: When you’re at cons like these, do you meet people dressed as you-as-Superman? Brandon Routh: Yeah, and that’s cool. It’s younger people mostly who didn’t see “Superman: The Movie” and see Christopher Reeve. He was my Superman, so for me, it’s a cool thing to actually be the first iteration they’ve seen of the character. Geek: Did "Superman Returns" get a bad rap? Routh: After the movie came out, yeah. It was well reviewed and well-liked, and about a year after it, they started to be down on it. Geek: The movie was commercially and critically successful, but there was a tide against it. Do you think things have come full circle and people are defending it again? Routh: Listen, everybody that I meet says they liked the movie. It is unfortunate that people have to preface things with, “I don’t care what anyone else says, but I like the movie.” They should just be able to be proud and happy that they liked “Superman Returns.” I am proud and happy they liked “Superman Returns.” There are people who don’t like it, and who don’t like every movie. I want them to be able to live proudly in the sunlight. Geek: With “Man of Steel” coming out, there's big Superman talk all around, but it’s not you in the suit. Is that a bittersweet experience? Routh: I would have liked to done another movie. I love the character, and the fans are great. It has been an amazing family to be a part of. I feel like I still had more to do, and to grow as the character. But Henry [Cavill] is a great actor and has done a nice job. I’m happy for Superman fans that they get another film. Geek: Has there been any interaction between you and Cavill? Routh: No, I’ve never met him but I look forward to. He actually screen tested, I think, for the one iteration of the film I did as well back in 2004 and didn’t get it. He’s deserving of it, but had to wait a while. Geek: Do you have any advice for him or anyone who takes over the role of Superman? Routh: I think it’s just honoring that legacy, and the gentleman who has played the character to this point. It is a story with an amazing history, and I think he seems like a nice-enough guy that he knows that. I don’t think I need to tell him that, and he’ll learn from the fans how much Superman means to them. People come up and they love the character, and – as much as they may have loved me in the role – I’m just the vessel being able to put that guy up on screen.

I ****ing loved it.
When I first heard Snyder was involved I expected a good looking film with manic action and very little heart or brains. As it turns out, there's all kinds of emotion in it beginning to end, and while the action is unlike anything I'd seen before (imagine the battle at the end of Avengers on steroids) the movie as a whole is surprisingly subdued and I'd even say somber in tone. Although there are a few light moments (that all worked for me), it isn't even in the same galaxy as the Donner films in terms of style. It was much more of a grown-up movie than I expected. People die, it's very science fiction at times (Krypton is freaking alien, it took a bit to get used to) and while the narrative jumps all over the place, nothing ever really felt rushed. It just felt...right. And this may be the most origin-y origin story I've ever seen.
Spoiler!
I also can't wait to see it again in a few days. |

Thanks for the review! I was going to see it tonight, but I've had a case of acute bronchitis for more than a week and I'd just annoy myself and everyone else at the midnight showing.
Hopefully, I'll see it before it goes to DVD in November. |

Hey JD, is it worth spending the money on 3D or is it the same experience in 2D. I'm very picky about what I splurge for 3D on and the previews of this just didn't strike me as 3D worthy.

I saw it in 3d and I can't actually remember anything overtly 3d about it. I think 2d would be fine.

What I will say is now people who thought Batman had a chance against Superman certainly will know who is top dog and it isn't even close.

I always thought a good plot to a JA movie would involve someone incapacitating Superman and having the remaining JA members teaming up to stop whatever force took him out.

That argument always cracked me up. The only way Batman stands a chance against Superman is if he cheats and has Kryptonite.

I'm hearing less than great things. More of the same Snyder problems that have plagued him his whole career.
