Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

What brand ammo do you guys recommend for the most bang for your buck? Any that you would avoid?
In particular, I'm looking online for 9mm ammo in bulk for my Ruger P89DC.

Yeah, that's a good deal. And I'm fine w/that brand for practice. Another 'cheap' brand I like fine is Prvi Partizan, out of what used to be Yugoslavia. Their 'practice' grade stuff always goes bang and they make some 'sniper grade' ammo for (military caliber) rifles that I like a lot. I also like Magtech practice ammo, they're out of Brazil. Find a good price on any of those and have fun burning up that powder.

If my wife didn't have ours farter than I'm comfortable with already I'd be buying like crazy. Sometimes I look at palmetto and think they've got to just be trying to arm the public.

Ideally no, you don't keep mags loaded because that does wear out the spring faster.

Wears out is an inaccurate description, a spring when it's expanded has a lower pushing strength than it has when its compressed. If you compress a spring and leave it compressed it gradually becomes "trained" to this position and loses some of it's strength. It is never good idea to leave your mags loaded.

I keep 2 older mags half loaded just on hand for whatever i may need them for and then the rest are empty.

for what it's worth, I've also heard that you don't keep a fully loaded mag in your gun. For example, if you have a loaded 10 round mag and you put that mag into your pistol, you then chamber a round and have 1 round in the chamber and 9 rounds in the mag, and that is ok.
What you don't want to do is load a round into to chamber and then release the magazine and load it with one more round doing a 10 + 1 thing. For whatever reason, having that magazine spring fully compressed is not good on it. Has anyone else heard this theory?
