Matheny took him out an inning or two earlier thinking the game was over. OHearn ended up batting twice.

With 17 games left, it'll be close....that's assuming Matheny doesn't screw it up for Salvy by not playing him.

I think Matheny took Salvy out of the game last night to give him another game behind the plate today. Day game after night game, etc..

Yeah, I actually think Salvy coming out last night shows that Matheny is committed to starting him the rest of the way or certainly until he gets the record. I get the comeback the night before but the Royals pitching was such shit last night, I don't blame MM for seeing a window to get Salvy a rest and taking that window.

I’d rather rest him by having him DH more, not by pulling him late in the game and having him also miss 2 ABs.

^This. In order to give him the best chance to pass Bench and hopefully Soler he needs to maximize his ABs, not minimize them. To save his body some wear and tear, just DH him.

Well, now it's a head-scratcher. Matheny has Salvy DHing today. No reason to pull him last night if that was the plan all along. Ugh!

They were down 12-5 when Salvy got pulled last night in the 7th. Normal baseball logic says he probably isn't going to hit again and save 2 innings of him behind the plate. Weird Monday Quarterbacking flex on Matheny for this one.
